Calochlaena dubia [Dicksoniaceae] ; False Bracken, Soft Bracken, Rainbow Fern

Fantastic plant for part or deep shade, in challenging conditions like under trees,

Grows larger than you think.. 1m? 1.5m? 2m? depends on the conditions.

Slow growing, except when it’s not.

Best planted at a larger pot size. In our experience smaller tubes have sat there for a couple of years before getting going, whereas a vigourus 140mm pot will rocket.

Will grow to exclude other plants –– mine is currently colonising my lawn. Which is so fun.

Rhizomatous and spreading.

Tough, resilient.

Can handle dry periods once established, but I would regularly water or irrigate for first year.

Not easy to source. More people should be propagating!

Should be everywhere!
